Kedu (Hello) and welcome to ULO.
‘ULO’ means ‘home’ in Igbo, the Nigerian dialect spoken by my late father.
Growing up in Nigeria, I was surrounded by an array of clashing wax fabrics and vibrant prints, the inspiration behind my bold designs.
My love of textiles, colours and design has accompanied me since I left Nigeria, and moved from London to Melbourne where the team and I now design and hand make each piece in our studio.
Limited Edition African Wax Print Fabrics
I'm committed to my African roots and heritage, so source an array of limited-edition wax print fabric from local vendors in Tanzania, Ghana and Nigeria.
Wax fabric is one of the most beautiful and colourful materials in the world - it comes in innumerable bold and colourful patterns, with stories of heritage and tradition attached to each design. The bold hues and intricate, often quirky patterns have become emblematic of African style.
Many of the wax-cloth fabrics that are a hallmark of African style originate from the Netherlands which were shipped to Africa, but as the style caught on, many African-owned production facilities sprung up to meet demand and are sold through local market vendors and fabric artisans.
Made by Us. Cherished by You.
My team and I proudly design and produce limited edition collections in our Melbourne studio. Each collection is made-to-order with the team placing utmost focus on craftsmanship rather than trend.
The Promise of Joy
Our greatest tool is our wax printed fabric. This is the showpiece. For me, this fabric is rich in culture and heritage, and the epitome of joy. I hope that by creating beautiful collections for people to cherish, they too will come to love the place that I call home, and find joy in all that we do here at ULO.
